Cambuse du Noir

• Valence (France) • march 4th, 5th and 6th (2005)

Corinne Naidet

For the ninth consecutive year the "polar" was fêted in an astonishing place : an old desacralized vault.

About thirty French authors were joined together to meet a faithful and large public. This festival is organized by specialists : Jean Claude Lecocq and Serge Rey, booksellers of Urubu, specialized in the “black novel” and located in Valence and Les travailleurs du Noir (the workers of the Black), a libertarian and dynamic association.

Without any subsidy, the whole of voluntary still made a success where many readers ‘ve bought piles of books (not so frequent !) with privileged moments where the friendship take the precedence over all the remainder... A very particular environment without author’s presentation nor conference but with readers who spend hours to discuss with the present writers.

During this festival is decreed the price “polar derrière les murs” (polar behind the walls) : all the year, books are proposed to the prisoners of the area Rhône-Alpes. At the beginning of 2005, with the help of several associations, their votes are collected.

This year it is Hannelore Cayre with Commis d’office published by Métailié editions which was rewarded.
